African Kwele Ekuk Tribal Mask Gabon Art
Anthropomorphic wooden mask in oval shape, underlined by a clear pigmentation, referring to the light, in a stylized heart around the eyes. These are signified in two openwork half-moons. The peculiarity of this mask lies in its large pair of arched horns that meet under the chin. It is pigmented with black and kaolin white. This growth refers to the antelope. These masks were associated with the spirits of the forest and ancestors and danced on the occasion of the cult of Bwété.
